One of the most popular beauty treatments is laser hair removal. This treatment uses laser technology to target the follicle and get rid of any unwanted hair. It’s important to follow the right steps between appointments to maintain laser hair removal results for smooth, hair-free skin.
Whether you’re halfway through your session or about to start your first laser hair removal treatment course, be sure to follow these tips below so you can enjoy your results for longer!
Avoid Plucking and Waxing
For the best results, most people need at least 6-8 laser hair removal sessions, however, this can vary for each person depending on individual hair growth.
To keep your hair follicles intact before each appointment, you should avoid plucking, waxing or any form of electrolysis for at least 6 weeks before any laser hair removal treatments.
Since it takes a few sessions before you see the best results, you may experience regrowth and want to get rid of these hairs between appointments. Shaving is the easiest way to maintain laser hair removal as it only removes the surface of the hair. This leaves the remaining follicles to be targeted during your laser treatment.
There is evidence that shaving before treatment can actually improve your laser hair results along with your comfort levels. Although, we do advise that you avoid shaving for the first few days after laser hair removal as your skin will be more sensitive.
No Sun Exposure
Your skin will be sensitive to the sun after each session. To maintain laser hair removal results, it’s best to avoid sun exposure to the treated area until the whole course has finished.
Use sun protection of a minimum of SPF30 for at least 4 weeks on all exposed treated areas. If too much sun is in direct contact with the skin it can become irritated and prone to burning. So, no sunbeds or sunbathing!
Keep Your Skin Hydrated
To maintain laser hair removal, you should keep your skin as hydrated as possible. During the first few days after treatment, it’s normal to feel a sensation of warmth to the treated area, similar to a sunburnt feeling – which will calm down quite quickly.
There are a few post-treatment rules to follow to maintain laser hair removal and keep your skin protected. The first is to avoid fragranced products. Your skin may be more sensitive than usual and fragrances may cause irritation. To keep your skin moisturised opt for specialist gels and fragrance-free lotions, remember you can always ask our salon clinicians for advice after your treatment!
Showers are relaxing, but the hot water can dry out and irritate the skin. So, we advise sticking to cool showers for a few days after your treatment to maintain laser hair removal. This also goes for hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms (only until your entire treatment is finished).
