The first few days after laser hair removal are crucial to keeping your skin clean and protected. It’s normal towards the beginning of the healing process to feel a sensation of warmth to the area, a similar feeling to a sunburn. During the days after laser hair removal, you may experience redness or raised bumps around your hair follicles, this is normal and will usually disappear after 48 hours.
Any side effects will slow down over a few sessions when the area becomes used to laser hair removal treatment. So, what aftercare should you consider after having laser hair removal treatment?
Avoid Sun Exposure
The first way to protect your skin is to avoid any exposure to the sun as it can cause irritation. We recommend that you avoid sunbathing for about two weeks, use as much sun cream as possible (preferably SPF 50) to reduce any contact with UVA and UVB rays.
Hot water can even cause some blistering, so taking cool showers is the most sensible thing to do. It is important that you take time to care for your skin by keeping it as hydrated and moisturised as possible, both before and after the treatment.
Keep Cool & Protect Your Skin
As laser hair removal does not require any complicated aftercare, there is little recovery time, but it’s important to avoid any contact with saunas, swimming pools, and jacuzzis. Even though they are lovely places to relax, your laser-treated skin can react badly to the water, and it may cause burns, irritation, and redness. Unfortunately, gyms are out of the question for the first few days after laser hair removal too. Sweat can get into the pores of your skin, making the skin dirty, sore, and infected.
No Scratching!
Remember when you got chickenpox? The same rule applies here, the area must be treated gently with no rubbing or scratching as it could scar. It’s also important that you do not shave the skin if it’s swollen or crusting, and make sure you avoid waxing, tweezing, and threading for the whole duration of the laser hair removal treatment too! To make your skin less sensitive, wear loose clothing to prevent any irritation. If you find any kind of aggravation, place an icepack on it to cool down.
Beauty & Makeup Rules
We advise that you avoid the use of beauty products for the first few days after laser hair removal. The skin around the face can be sensitive, so be gentle and cautious. Only apply makeup if it’s essential! This applies to perfume too; the chemicals can cause a reaction to the area as well.
